On Saturday April 30th Barnesville Hospital, Morristown Pharmacy and Ohio Hills Health Services will participate in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Unwanted medications will be accepted from 10 AM to 2 PM in the Morristown Pharmacy parking lot. Keeping unused prescription medications at home creates a public health and safety concern, because they can be accidentally ingested, stolen, misused and abused.
Area residents are encouraged to bring unwanted and expired medications to this event for safe disposal. To ensure patient confidentiality cross out the patients name on prescription drug labels, however, if possible, leave the name of the medication visible.
After the death of a loved one, there are often unused prescriptions and drugs left behind. We understand disposing of these medications can be an unsettling time, said Leila Miller, MSW, LSW, Social Worker, Barnesville Hospital. I will be available throughout the Take Back Day if anyone would like support. There will also be information regarding available community resources if follow-up is required.
The event will accept over-the-counter medications as well as prescription drugs and even pet medicines. Hospital staff and a law enforcement will supervise the collection in order to accept expired controlled substances.
Barnesville Hospital, Morristown Pharmacy and Ohio Hills Health Services are committed to keeping our communities safe by helping area residents dispose of medications they no longer need, said Joe Jeffries, R.Ph., Pharmacy Director, Barnesville Hospital. By disposing of unwanted medication you are doing your part to prevent potential drug diversion and abuse.
The Pharmaceutical Take Back Program is a great opportunity to clean out your medicine cabinets, safeguard you home, and to preserve our environment for future generations. Everyone is welcome regardless of where medications were purchased. However, medications cannot be accepted from businesses such as nursing homes and doctors offices.
